rental extension

The booked time is not enough for you or you cannot estimate the exact time required? No problem - you can flexibly extend your rental period so that you can work without time pressure.

You can find all information here:

When ordering, you can select a rental period of one week or two weeks. From the second rental week onwards, the reduced rental price always applies , even if you initially only booked the device for one week.

Keep the device for as long as you need it and we will then bill you for the extension on a daily basis . You do not need to inform us separately of a subsequent extension. If we need more detailed information for our planning, we will send you an email.

We always receive a notification from the post office when you have received and returned the package. We use this information to calculate the duration of the rental and you will then receive an invoice by email. Please check your email inbox and spam folder regularly after returning the package. We ask for your understanding that the rental extension process can sometimes take a little longer.

Calculating the rent

Neither the outward nor return shipment is part of the rental period. The rental period begins with the first delivery attempt and ends automatically when the parcel is handed over to the post office or packing station. The day of delivery and the day on which the parcel is handed over count. The time is not taken into account.

Example: If the first delivery attempt was on a Monday, a week's rental would end on the Monday of the following week. You would therefore have to drop off the device at the post office on Monday in order to meet the one-week rental period. If you do not drop off the device until Tuesday, you will have extended the rental period by one day.

As long as you have the device with you, every day on which you could use the device is a paid rental day. This means that weekdays, Sundays and public holidays count as rental days. Therefore, plan in advance how long you would like to rent the device, as it is not possible to return it on Sundays or public holidays.

Example: If your rental week begins on a Saturday, you would have to return the device on the following Saturday. If you keep the device for longer, you can only return it to the post office on Monday. In this case, you have extended the rental by two days, as Sunday and Monday count as rental days.

If you order for a specific date, the device can arrive on the desired day or +/- 1 working day, as we unfortunately have no influence on the delivery by DHL or GLS. The rental period also begins here with the first delivery attempt. This means that the rental period can begin on the desired day, one working day earlier or one working day later. Working days are Monday to Saturday, only Sundays and public holidays do not count as working days.

Example: If you chose Tuesday as your preferred date and the first delivery attempt was on Monday, a week's rental would end on Monday of the following week. You would therefore have to return the device to the post office on Monday in order to meet the one-week rental period. If you do not return the device until Tuesday, you will have extended the rental by one day, which will incur a charge.

The exception: You receive the device on a Monday, as in the example above. But the Monday of the return in the following week is a public holiday (e.g. German Unity Day), in which case the rental period is extended until the next working day without incurring additional costs. However, this exception only applies if the official return day is a public holiday on which the post office is closed . If the official return is on Easter Saturday, for example, you can take the package to the post office as this is not a public holiday. However, if you do not return the device until Tuesday, the rental period will be extended by three days.

Our tip - flexible return

There are now more and more DHL parcel stations. With our shipping label, you can use these packing stations and are not tied to the opening hours of the post offices. The packing stations can be used around the clock, including on Sundays and public holidays. Since the rental period ends when you drop off the parcel at the post office/pack station, you can also return the parcel on a Sunday, thus shortening the rental period by one day.

You are not at home when the parcel is delivered: The parcel will be taken to the nearest post office and can be picked up there. You should find proof of postage in your mailbox and/or by email. Alternatively, you can use the tracking number to check the shipment that DHL automatically sent you by email. Please plan the rental period sensibly in advance. Otherwise, you will lose some of the rental time, as the rental period starts with the first delivery attempt and not with collection from the branch. If you know in advance that you will not be at home, you can have the parcel left with a neighbor or redirect it directly to a branch. To do this, check the DHL tracking email. If the parcel is delivered directly to a branch, the rental period starts with delivery to the branch (first delivery attempt), even if you do not collect the parcel until later.

Are you a private DHL customer and would you like to have the shipment delivered to a post office or packing station? The rental period always starts with the first delivery attempt. If the shipment is delivered to a branch or packing station, this also applies to delivery/storage, even if you do not pick up the package until later. This type of shipment is particularly useful if you are not at home during the day. You can then pick up the package flexibly and you will have little unused rental time.
